. firefighters are working to get that water turned off. ktvu news crew has been there since 4:30. we're going to get a live update. a new update coming up at 5:30. >>> happening now as we were just talking about it's freezing cold around most of the bay area right now. with some temperatures dropping into the 30s and even the 20s. ktvu tara moriarty is live in walnut creek with more on the freeze warning. how cold is it there? >> 29 degrees. and you can really feel it. it's cold. it was 30 degrees when we first arrived but it's dropped a degree here on the bank sign here. is a freeze warning is in effect for your north bay valleys and mountains until 9:00 this morning. and a frost advisory in place for bay side cities in santa clara valley. temperatures are frigid in livermore, redwood city, napa. be advised it's a spare the air day. even though it's cold it's illegal to light fire logs or pellets. coming up a little bit later we'll tell you how much it's supposed to get what the temperature will be like a little bit later today. live from walnut creek i'm tara moriarty. >>> time now 5:01. is
've been following since 4:30 this morning. a water main break on jackson. ktvu's alex savidge was first on the scene and joins us to tell us when crews expect to have the water shut off. it was supposed to be at 7:00. but that's no longer the case? >> reporter: that's correct. the time frame, obviously being pushed back. it's a very complicated process from what i understand as they are still trying to isolate where the break is on this underground water line and what those workers are doing from the city of hayward's water department, they are checking the valves near this intersection trying to see which one of them will shut off the water. obviously they haven't found it yet. lanes of traffic are closed down. more of them have opened up. so cars are coming through. this is jackson and santa clara streets. as you can see, it's right near the ent transto 880 -- entrance to 880. water is still running down the street. this is what it looked like when this 12-inch line ruptured. firefighters were called in to cut off the flow of water. it wasn't a simple fix. so apparently, the water dep

that was on fire. flames shot in the air on athens around 1:00 this morning. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live from the scene with video you will only see on channel 2. alex? >> reporter: well, good morning. the fire inside of that home is what triggered a second fire that came from the curbside gas valve right outside the home. that's why you see pg&e crews still doing last-minute repair work to patch up the road where they had to dig things up to access that line. that second fire coming from the gas line certainly made things difficult for firefighters this morning, as the fire ripped through both floors of the home, and flames from the natural gas line shot 15 feet in the air. the homeowners had to wait for the pg&e to turn off the gas line. this started around 1:00 on the 100 block of athens street. there were four people inside the home at the time of the fire. two of them were sent to the hospital with possible smoke inhalation. a neighbor i talked with this morning told me he feels lucky this fire didn't spread to his house next door. >> grateful, you know, it was pretty smoky downstairs wh

complete bay area news coverage, starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> and good morning. welcome to mornings on 2. i'm brian flores. >> i'm claudine wong. it's thursday, we want to start with breaking news we first reported at 4:30 this morning. the investigation is underway in a deadly police shooting in walnut creek. it happened hours ago and we are on creek side drive near 680 with the circumstances that led up to the shooting. >> reporter: police just wrapped up their latest briefing about 15, 20 minutes ago. we are getting new details, we have learned there are now multiple officers involved in this incident which wound up with an parent domestic violence suspect dead. investigators are still onto scene. the presence of police and sonoma -- contra kosta county deputies has decreased but we are learning that incident appears to have happened behind that brick fence you can see in the distance there. police say this may have started as a possible domestic violence incident that ended in gun fire. one suspect dead, nobody else hurt we have learned. we have learned the
